LIVE GROUP PRESENTATIONS

Provide or pre-record (with PowerPoint) your instructions for a live group presentation session and upload this to Canvas. You can explain how the live session is structured, what you expect students to do, and how the grading procedure works.
Set up your grading rubrics in Canvas SpeedGrader.
Schedule a live Zoom session of max 90 minutes in Canvas.
Let your students present their findings (10 min max) live in Zoom, group by group. Provide 10 min breaks after 30 minutes.
Grade the presentations in Canvas SpeedGrader.
Alternatively, you might have too many students to conduct live presentations within one timeslot or other challenges that make live presentations inappropriate for your class. In that case, you can have students present their presentation in Canvas, see below.

CANVAS GROUP PRESENTATIONS/REPORTS/PRODUCTS

Provide written or pre-recorded PowerPoint instructions for the assignment and upload this to Canvas. You can explain what you expect students to do and how the grading procedure works.
In case of presentations, have your students record their presentation with Powerpoint.
Let your students submit their presentation, reports, or showcase their product in Canvas Assignments.

Provide feedback with SpeedGrader in Canvas. Alternatively, you can use Feedback Fruits to provide (peer)feedback in a great interactive manner.

Live sessions help your students to stay connected to the course and each other. But, attending online live sessions takes up a lot of the participants’ energy, including your own. Therefore, your online sessions are shorter and with more breaks in between than in an offline setting. By preparing a rubric using SpeedGrader you can instantly assess your students in an efficient manner and students get their ‘just-in-time-feedback’.

CANVAS GROUP PRESENTATIONS/REPORTS/PRODUCTS

Using Canvas to showcase and grade group assignments can be very efficient and effective. Adding a rubric to your assignment makes grading more consistent between different graders, helps to speed up grading, and to give students insight into how their grades came into being. Setting up a new rubric is a time-investment, but in the long run it can save you a lot of time.

You have various tools available to provide peer-feedback in an interactive manner too. Peer-feedback can increase the amount of valuable feedback for students. Note that it often doesn’t save the lecturer too much time as he/she has a different role to fulfill; providing feedback on the peer-feedback. If you leave out this part, students often tend to underestimate the value of peerfeedback and perceive it as ineffective additional work. A plenary Zoom session or pre-recorded video in which you discuss the best feedback and your general view on the products (main mistakes, issues, things to attend), helps to overcome these issues.

Live Presentations: Take advantage of the online setting to increase student engagement and peer feedback. Let students provide one compliment, one suggestion for improvement, and/or one question in the chat after each presentation.
Live Presentations: Assign student roles to generate questions and lead a discussion after a few presentations.
Use the SpeedGrader audio feedback tool in Canvas. For each student, you can record an audio message with the main feedback point. This is a fast way and provides a personal touch to your feedback.
After a Canvas group assignment (and peer-feedback), set up a plenary Zoom session or record a video in which you discuss the best feedback and your general view on the products (main mistakes, issues, things to attend). This speeds up the feedback process. In case of peer-feedback students know you’re monitoring the process. With Feedback Fruits you can also provide (peer)feedback on skills.
